Mrs. Shakunthala Bhandarkar, the widow of the valiant Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar, exemplifies strength and resilience. After the tragic loss of her husband during a counter-insurgency operation in 1999, she channeled her grief into a mission of support and inspiration for other families of martyrs. She is deeply involved with the Vasantharatna Foundation for Art, where she volunteers and organizes events for the welfare of martyrs’ families.
Shakunthala is also a dedicated mother to her two sons, Nirbhay and Akshay, who have both followed their father’s footsteps by joining the Indian Armed Forces, continuing the legacy of service and sacrifice.

Shakunthala Bhandarkar’s journey with the Metamorphes Foundation began as a heartfelt endeavor to continue the legacy of her late husband, Lt. Col. Ajit Bhandarkar.
